I work in the realm of ab initio nuclear theory, which successfully describes atomic nuclei while maintaining a link to quantum chromodynamics. We use modern mathematical dimensionality reduction techniques to extend the reach of ab initio calculations, which are computationally demanding, to heavy open-shell nuclei. In addition, I am interested in connecting the ab initio approach with the energy density functional method to create synergies in the advancement of these two theories.
